Coverage

By Matthew Ballen, Creative Director of ScriptLaunch

Description

THE PITCH:

At ScriptLaunch, we'll help you articulate and develop the elements of your story you're most passionate about.

We'll also focus on what's most unique about your project, helping you make sure your screenplay is the most compelling and engaging version of itself it can be - with the best chances of being heard in a crowded, ever-shrinking marketplace.

Last but not least we'll discuss your goals with you, so we can make sure our advice and development makes sense in the larger context of what you're trying to achieve with your project - and what you're trying to achieve with your career.

THE PROCESS:

This is the same type of analysis your project would receive behind the closed doors of a major production company, network or studio, except we enhance your coverage to make it more useful to you as a writer. Analysis results in a grade of PASS, CONSIDER or RECOMMEND for your project, and a second grade is given for your writing. All projects are carefully matched with the right member of our reading team by means of our unique Project Profile(TM), ensuring that your coverage is as relevant and insightful as possible.

Typical length: 2-3 pages of comments (plus optional synopsis).

Your coverage will:

-- Discuss your concept and log-line.

-- Discuss all the major elements of your script, from storyline, structure, character and dialogue to theme, tone, visuals and market. We'll also discuss things like set pieces and overall "wow" factor. Even small, indie-spirited projects need to wow audiences in their own way. Despite appearances to the contrary, originality is a vital asset that will greatly help your project make its way through the industry.

-- Discuss what's unique about your project, and how your project works with genre and audience expectations.

-- Discuss the potential audience for your film. These days, it's becoming more and more important for you to define your audience and figure out smart ways to connect with them. Writers and filmmakers that can do this are in the best position to help get their work financed and produced.

-- Discuss any other aspects of the script that a reader for a studio or producer would note.
