I love dogs and have a houseful of one stray, one adoption, and two puppy mill rescues. My family and I live on a small acreage and have a large garden, a flock of ducks, and are starting an orchard (or are attempting to do so).
I have so many. I love authors that write with a rural flair -- Larry Watson, Leif Enger, William Kloefkorn, Kent Haruf -- but then again, I like the guys who can write about New York brownstone living and make me feel like I've experienced that too. I love a good story more than anything, and I love it when a character speaks thoughts that I've had myself.
I love certain movies but I admit I skip a lot because I fear an unfavorable comparison with the book. The Squid and the Whale is one of my favorites, but I'm also a sucker for Monty Python and Mel Brooks.
I don't watch much. When I do, it's usually something mind-numbing and watched with a goal of procrastination.
I will be attending graduate school in the fall to earn my PhD in English - Creative Writing. My areas of research interest include poets of the political left, especially those of the early 20th century, Holocaust literature, and the romantic aspect of outlaw-dom on the American frontier.
I want to earn my PhD in order to teach Creative Writing at the university level, but I also want to have the opportunity to continue my own writing as well.
