Interests

There is very little that DOESN'T interest him in life. But he finds people and the things they say and do and create to be the most interesting and the most inspiring.

Movies

movies with poetic moments which take you into the zone. doesn't matter what genre.

About Me

Two feature films have been shot (one in Los Angeles and one in Alaska) based on scripts rewritten according to Peter's analyses. Peter was chosen, along with other produced screenwriters, to contribute a practical exercise to the screenwriter's handbook, "Now Write! Screenwriting", out in bookstores later this year. In 2009, Peter spoke twice to screenwriters in Hollywood about WHAT NOT TO DO IN A SCREENPLAY.

On the writing side, recently, Peter collaborated on a major, page one rewrite of one of his script consulting clients' scripts. Peter will be starting several new feature assignments at the end of the year. As writer and/or producer, Peter is part of three films (as either writer, producer, or both) in a $240 million five-picture slate he put together with Mrs. Stanley Kramer, which is out to investors.

For 2010, Peter has been chosen to rewrite a Western, starring Sam Elliot and Keith Carradine. In 2011, Tarcher/Penguin will publish Peter's advice to writers in NOW WRITE! Screenwriting: Exercises by Today's Best Screenwriters, Teachers and Consultants.

Peter has a total of five projects on the production slates of four different independent motion picture companies.

Producer:

In partnership with New York Film Group, Peter is producing the theatrical feature, VENGEANCE, from his own script. Principal photography planned for 2011. Director attached: Vahe Babaian, (After Freedom, winner, Audience Award, Method Fest). Budget $9.2 million. Distributor letter-of-interest received. Seed money has been raised. Casting of major roles in progress.

Peter co-executive-produced "SPEAK TO THE WORLD," a pilot for an interview show for cable television. He also co-produced and co-wrote "DOUBLE CROSS," a half-hour suspense drama for cable, which was offered a worldwide distribution deal within a month of its completion.

Additionally, Peter was a founding partner and Senior Vice President of Creative Affairs of BlueSky Pictures, an Anglo-Dutch film company which, in concert with Creative Artists Agency, in Los Angeles, developed a motion picture package with Antonio Banderas attached to star, and Michael Cristofer attached to direct.

As BlueSky's head of Creative Affairs, it was Peter's responsibility to make recommendations on all projects submitted to the company, and to advise the CEO of their quality and produceability. In that company, Peter was also involved in raising financing, packaging directors and stars, and getting distributor interest. As such, Peter developed relationships for the company with senior executives at Universal Pictures, Miramax, Sony Pictures Classics and Fox Searchlight Pictures.

Writer:

Peter has either been hired to write, or has optioned, about a dozen theatrical feature scripts to independent producers and has done rewrites on indie projects, for both the big screen and small screen. Short films, a stage play, and numerous public service announcements have been produced from his scripts, among them, the half-hour short, Double Cross, which he also produced with two partners.

Peter has been in dialogue with Oscar nominee, Terrence Howard, to write a theatrical feature, which Terrence would star in and produce. Peter developed his script "Victory Girl" with Best Picture Oscar-winner, Fred Roos.

Peter has done numerous rewrites for independent producers such as a rewrite of a martial arts action feature, and a polish on a satire/romantic comedy for K'n'K Productions. In 2009, he completed another feature rewrite for a client and will be starting on other feature assignments in 2010.

Peter's comedy, The Meshugana Brothers, was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2005 Thunderbird International Film Festival Screenplay Competition.

Having received seed financing through private equity, Peter and a producing partner have begun pre-preproduction on his packaged project VENGEANCE. Budget: $9.2 million. Principal photography is slated for principal photography in 2011.

Bluewater Productions hired Peter to write a sci-fi/action/thriller, which is completed and currently available. Additionally, Bluewater has optioned three of Peter's treatments, which are in the script development or packaging stages.

Peter has written/co-written/consulted on 41 different independent film, television and theater projects --- (20 sold, including 15 produced short films or public service announcements and 4 feature scripts optioned). His suspense/drama, Double Cross, (which he co-wrote/co-produced), was shot in Malibu, California.

Peter's romantic comedy, The Pickup, was produced for the cable medium. His Chapters in Black American History have aired many times on U.S. syndicated television. His play, John Brown and Frederick Douglass, was produced for the stage.

One of his other hats in life is to help other writers. More information is provided below on his script analysis service.

Peter is a credited script consultant on two feature films shot in Alaska and Los Angeles in January and February, 2009. Before being shot, both scripts were rewritten according to his script analysis recommendations.

Goal

To get entertaining and enlightening truths on the screen, and to help other writers do the same.

NEED PROFESSIONAL FEEDBACK ON YOUR SCRIPT?

Spot-on script analyses done!

Do you want to take your script to the next level, so it will sell quickly and be made into a great film? Do you also want some feedback on what to do in a rewrite, or on whether the script is ready for the marketplace?

I will give you a spot-on script analysis which shows you both the strong points of your script, which you should NOT change, as well as areas needing improvement.

In contrast to simple coverage, my analyses are extensive write-ups which deal, in specifics, with all the areas which need work in order to make the piece succeed in the marketplace. I examine all aspects of a script including: theme, premise, characterization, character arc, plot, dialogue, structure, rhythm, pacing, tone, and format. Anything which doesn't "work" gets noted down, whether it's the very premise of the story, or a single line of dialogue. Having been the senior creative exec in a production company, I can look at material from a producer's vantage point, as well as a writer's. This and other facets of my service cause many of my clients to recommend me to their fellow writers.

In 2009, two feature films (FROZEN, shot in Alaska, and CAGE FREE, shot in L.A.), were produced, on which I'm a credited script consultant. Before they were shot, they were both rewritten according to my script analysis recommendations.

I have optioned my own, or been hired to write, about a dozen feature films and have had a number of shorts and TV spots produced. I was asked to collaborate on a project with a 2006 Oscar and Golden Globe nominee for Best Actor. And I have developed a script with a Best Picture Oscar-winning producer.

I am also producing one of my own scripts in 2010/2011, on a budget of $9.2 million, so I can definitely give you feedback from the viewpoint of a producer!

My fees are: $75.00 to analyze a 1-2 page synopsis, $150.00 for a 10-20 page treatment, and $250.00 for a full script. You can reach me at 323-821-7349, 323-464-8537 or email me at peterdavidmyers@gmail.com. If you want to check out my bio, it starts on the next page. Screenwriter client testimonials are shown below.

I look forward to hearing from you and to helping you make a great script, which sells, and is made into a satisfying and commercially successful film!

AND HERE ARE SOME EARLIER TESTIMONIALS:

Peter Myers evaluation and analysis of my screenplay was key in assisting toward its re-write and completion. Peter first evaluated what was strong about my screenplay. No condescending screenplay bashing going on here! I felt respected as an artist
and encouraged to write on, not stifled or discouraged as so often individuals who we trust our precious "babies" with do. From there he critiqued for continuity and consistency of story and
style. He helped me evaluate what was superfluous so I'd have a tight, moving story. I felt Peter's expert help got me beyond barriers that I would not otherwise been aware of. I very highly recommend Peter for his expertise as a writer/analyst and as a person who can be safe and trustworthy with such a delicate task!
Sincerely, Cassandra Spencer, Los Angeles, Calif.

Peter was able to help clarify for me weak points on my current project, discover the scenes that were not contributing to the message and/or story,
grammatical and continuity errors and over all direction. I would highly recommend him for script analysis.

Pete, thanks for sending back the script so quickly.
The rewrite is in progress and your notes -- well, "invaluable" is almost an understatement. You have my unqualified endorsement.

Peter Myers did a thorough- script analysis for me on my soccer-related script. He examined all levels in the piece and told me exactly what I had to do to make it better. I would recommend him to anyone seeking a spot-on analysis of their screenplay.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am associated with a French actor/writer, and hired Peter Myers to do an analysis on the script, PINK LIMO. He gave me a 5 1/2-page, single-spaced analysis, which covered all the things needed on how to make the script better. He looked at the project from the creative and marketing angles. He didn't get into destructive criticism, but laser-beamed right to what should be worked on to make the script work fully. He understood the genre, but also discussed many details like story beats and dialogue needing improvement. Plus, he showed knowledge of how greenlighting decisions are made in Hollywood. I would hire him again, as the need arises, and would recommend him to any writer as a competent script analyst.
Sincerely,

I'm a full-time writer/producer, repped by a literary manager. I have had several scripts sold and optioned and two shorts and many PSA's produced. For the past six years, I've been hired consistently to write scripts for producers and investors. I am also hired by other writers to analyze their scripts. Now, I'm in pre-preproduction on one of my own scripts with a parnter in NY, so, on that latter hat of script analyst, I can offer a producer's perspective as well.

Peter's analysis of my screenplay was trully helpful. With a sixteen page in-depth play-by-play of all that's good and what needs to be improved in my script, I can't go wrong. He has also collaborated with me on titles and storylines which will increase my chances of selling my script. The best thing about Peter is that he is inspiring and encouraging which are traits that will benefit any aspiring or established writer.

We got in contact with Pete last year to get our first feature script analysed. The result was extrodinary as he opened our eyes into a whole new way of script writing. He was very helpful from the start ringing up and keeping in contact with us throughout which made us feel "This guy is genuine!" We wrote 60 pages for Pete first and when he got back to us and explained exactly what was needed in our script we really got working on it and wrote an extra 44 pages on top of the 60!! We really listened to what he said and he makes perfect sense in all areas of the script. We then used him a second time and was just as helpful explaining that it was a lot better than before and told us little things that needed tweaking to finish. We have now completed our script and are now working with a producer that has worked in Pinewood Studios which is a dream and we hope to start production on this film early next year!

All we can say about Pete is that he started as a business contact to start with but now getting to know him he has become a great friend! All because of his expertise in script writing, he has helped us get this script professional and suitable for producers.

Thank you Pete. It's been an absolute pleasure working with you!

This guy is amazing! Normally, I don't go to the same consultant twice, but I've went back to Peter thrice so far.

Let me tell you why.

If there's any crinkle in the script, anything that doesn't fit right, even a mere line of dialogue, he will call you on it. It's the small stuff if added together that will make the script all the more powerful. But that's not the main reason to go to him.

His Analyses come in 2 forms. Form #1, he breaks down the structure of your screenplay. He commends you on where it's good, and advises you to get crackin' on what is not. From his view, he recommends on making the script stronger/better through the hero. You make things harder for the character (more conflict) or you make the hero progress toward achieving his goal. Because if you think about it, the audience does not want to put itself in the shoes of someone who is a 'wuss'.

The second part of his analysis is basically a page-by-page critique of every scene. Not only does Peter point out what's the problem with the particular scene in the question, but how it effects the structure of the screenplay as a whole.

With the above said, I think he really has a gift on making a screenplay better via its most important aspect, the hero. I won't lie, some of his feedback might seem too out there, at first, taking the hero or the structure in a direction you never thought of or being too detailed for a mere scene or just one line of dialogue, but eat, sleep, wake up the next day and you'll know Peter was right :)

I was at a pool party in santa monica when I met Peter. He was very helpful. I had written about 150 pages of a novel. My head was spinning. I was unfocused. I wanted to write a screenplay. He told me to outline and write a brief treatment. This helped me get back on track. I am now on page twenty of my sci-fi thriller.

Thanks Peter...

I met Peter at the Great American Pitchfest 2008 this past June. I've only dealt with one other literary analyst in my career at this point so suffice to say I was lacking in judgmental experience. However, when I met Peter I could tell he was sincere with his work, so I gave him a shot at analyzing my script.

Boy, was I glad I did.

Peter gives detailed notes about story structure, plot, character development, and overall marketability and even gave tips on the basic presentation of sending a polished, professional script to potential clients. I found his notes very detailed, straightforward, and to the point in regards to story structure and character development, making my judgment for corrections and revisions much more precise than if I were on my own. His help allowed me to see my own mistakes and offered very detailed advice on how to go about correcting and evolving my script to make it better.

Some of the rewrites I've had to undergo have set me back about a month in writing, but it was well worth it for a more straightforward, interesting, and marketable product that I can present to potential buyers, investors, and partners.

I will recommend Peter to other writers I know, and look forward to his advice on future writing projects I have in the works.

Thanks again Pete.

Peter, I would like to thank you so much for taking time out at this years' GAPF to speak with me. Through your thoughtful, honest and concise analysis of my work, I have now been put on the right track for rewriting my story into a compelling, interesting and hopefully marketable script. Not only did you point out the flaws, but also contributed very precise recommendations on how to fix them. I would admonish all screenwriters out there, novice or expert, to seriously consider Peter's personal and professional analysis of their work before submission. I feel it was my good fortune in my writing career to have met you and in my opinion, not only are you a talented writer and advisor, but also my friend!

Dear Peter,

Thank you so much for your great analysis. I was stunned reading it. First of all, I have to say honestly that---you really are beyond genius! I just couldn’t believe that someone can have that kind of ability to see through “things” the way you do and not miss a thing! Like you’re in a trance or something and everything just flows out of you naturally. That’s what I meant, when I talked about “the MASTER”.

I have to admit that I realized there would be a major rewrite needed on this script; however, what I had in mind was only 10% of what you laid out for me. Gee…it’s like a kindergarten kid trying to pass a high school test or something. The good part is I understand and agree with every point that you made even though I couldn’t see those things in the beginning. And you just hit the nails on the heads, one by one. How brilliant is that? Thank you so much for giving my script a new lease on life.

As I said…it’s going to be A MAJOR, MAJOR rewrite and could take a month. However, I will try my best to change things and add something to it to make it more multi-dimensional. I think you must have a third eye which lets you see things that other people, me included, can’t see. I’ve heard that great analysts have to be one step ahead of us and you are obviously so many steps beyond. There are very few genuine great analysts in this field and you are absolutely one of them.

By the way, who can beat the fee that you charge us? Next time I’ll pay you more for sure because you deserve it. You are such a great person!

Highest Regards,

Phoenix

Hey Pete Diddy,

Thanks again for all of your hard work. Since I'm so new at this, I'm sure that you really had your work cut out for you! I think that I have a much better feel for what the industry is looking for now. Thanks to your expertise, I can now apply everything that I've learned to my current and future projects. I will definitely be using your services again and would encourage any aspiring screenwriter to do so as well. You da man!

Peter -

I just wanted to personally thank you for the superlative script analysis you provided on my teen thriller/horror script GINGERBREAD. I incorporated many of your well thought out notes and as a result I'm having unprecedented success.

Just this past week, I received a phone call from Creative Screenwriting Magazine informing me that GINGERBREAD took Third Place (out of 3,500 submissions) in their AAA Competition. Needless to say, I was utterly shocked. Especially, because GINGERBREAD is a teen thriller/horror that would not normally be recognized in such a way.

The screenplay is now going out to 350 agencies and production companies around the town. Prior to this win, GINGERBREAD was also a Top Twenty script at the Slamdance Horror Competition and an Honorable Mention at this past year's Screenwriting Expo in Los Angeles. I'm already being contacted by Managers to see if I'm repped.

Thanks so much Peter. You really made a huge difference!

Best,

Peter,

What can I say; you are truly a master at what you do… I have to tell you a quick story. One year ago, I had submitted my script along with a check to a script analysis, in returned, three months later, I received a two-page double spaced letter back, stating that my script was well crafted, polished, and there is noting more that I can do… I was excited, so I submitted my screenplay in a screenplay competition. It won semi finalist out of 2,200 which is not to bad. I thought wow! What now? Thinking that my script was ready, I started submitting it to produces that had requested it. But in return, never got a response back… Even though this particular script-analysis told me that it was ready. I knew inside, that something in the script just was not working.. But what? I thought to myself.
Then I met Peter Myers, my script savoir. Peter, your work was not only worth every single dime, but you sent me a fifteen page SINGLE letter stating all the things that my script desperately needed or did not need. You turned it up, down and inside out. Your turn-around time was a whopping week in a half. WOW! Your work Peter was so detail and insightful that my script is now on the RIGHT PATH. You were honest, sincere and gave my script the attention that it needed.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Peter Myers.

I look forward to your re-analysis.. "would not go anywhere else"

Sincerely,

Penny Laurae Onkka - “Grasshopper”

Many thanks. WOW! What a lot of work you've done. You've really earned your money on this one.

Reading your analysis, I can see exactly why you've come to the conclusions you have and it will really help me to make my script better and more marketable.

I can see you're dead right on it - absolutely. As you say, I've got some work to do, but I can see what I need to do, thanks to you. Glad I met you.

Many thanks.

As a novice screenwriter I coudn't have made a better choice. Peter did an outstanding job on my script evaluation. I plan on sticking with him on future projects. He told me things about my script that I needed to hear and he did it in a kind way, to me, that aspect was very important. After discussing the problems and solutions, I now have a second gust of inspiration to finish my script with confidence that it will be better than ever.

I can't thank him enough.

Thanks again Peter.

Your analysis has been immensely helpful, but perhaps not in the way intended.

Like the Winchester House, the script became a panoply of askew-ness. With each addition, it became more out of plumb, level and square.

By your drawing attention to this, the original concept, the core feeling of the story has returned. When you re-read the revision, you will see exactly what I mean. It's about focus, depth-of-field, and most importantly, intent.

Again, thanks for the analysis -- with all the positives and negatives. It will certainly make the story right.

Hi Peter!

Just wanted to say, "An Evening With Peter Myers" was excellent! It was the most helpful and liberating seminar I've ever been to on writing, and in particular, screenwriting and the business surrounding it. Your anecdotes, humility, sincerity, measured evaluations of the current environment and wise advice were just what I needed to get and stay inspired. Your inner strength and simple intention is contagious, and I'm glad I was there to catch it. Thanks!

Peter,
Thank you for this analysis. I love it. A few months ago i almost
went to a screenwriting seminar in n.y. but i did not have time,
so i thought, why not just spend the equiv. amount of money and buy
books that will last forever. So i did buy a few great screenwriting
books.
The problem was time. I only had so much time to fit in writing so i
procrastinated in reading the books.
Last night i read your analysis of A.T. W., which was
wonderful. many of the areas that I was not sure about at the time
of writing you found and commented on. Interesting how there are so
many things that pop up that i did not anticipate, therefore my
format in certain areas was only my own invention and thus you found
because my inventions were unacceptable format. Thank God that the
computer program does most of the formating.
This one book "the screenwriters bible, 3rd edition" is great. sounds
like you wrote it. I really should have read it long ago. Now that
i have experience writing the book makes more sense and i understand
and can relate to what it discusses. So i think your analysis was
most valuable now and it blends in with my accelerated learning
program relative to this profession. Your suggestions in all the
areas of Dialogue, format, structure, plot, etc. etc. will be invaluable in getting this project to a higher level.
I really appreciate your thorough evaluation and suggestions.
Thanks for being so complete in your analysis and time and cost efficient. I will cerainly recommend you to my friends!
With Warmest Regards,
