I was the long haired kid growing up on a working ranch in Texas. No Hank Williams for me, I was into Led Zepplin, Black Sabboth and Kurt Vonnegut.
So .... I Left home at seventeen, got a job building parts for helicopters, put myself through school painting portraits, got a degree in computer science, flipped some houses, daytraded stocks, turned a historic building into everyone's favorite little speak-easy style martini bar and ran it with my wife for the next seven years. We partied like rock stars and danced till the sun came up with our favorite customers more times then I can count.
Then we sold everything we owned, pulled out to the highway and started driving across America to find a new life when a freak snow and ice storm forced us to spend the night in Santa Fe where we bumped into an old friend who was having trouble paying rent so we stayed with her for six months, bought a house and spent the next five years staring at the mountains, playing lots of tennis and for me ... writing.
After all, what's the use in being a character and living a random life if ya can't write about it?
So that brings us up to date. I've since written four scripts and outlined five more. Finally I've found the greatest challenge - screenwriting. It's what I want to do when I grow up.
I've read tons of horrible scripts and a few brilliant ones. I know what a good script is now and it doesn't involve loads of CGI or some tough, rogue character spewing lines like "ouch, that's gonna leave a mark."
Now I'm fortunate enough to be at the "query letter" part of my career. And with zero contacts I'm thinking this might be tougher than working cattle.
Feel free to say hi ya'll.
