This course provides tips and resources to help you break through the film festival selection process. Once you make it in, you'll need the tools to successfully market yourself at festivals. · SCREENPLAY DEVELOPMENT FROM THE INSIDE OUT (or What Happens To Your Screenplay When It Is Submitted To Studios or Production Companies) 4-Week Course Begins January 6, 2010
We work in Hollywood every day. And today's world of feature films is more complex than ever. In this course, we'll walk you through the development steps. We'll share what really happens when you submit your screenplay or material. You'll learn about the players at the studios, production companies and agencies. We'll teach you the importance of loglines, coverage, development notes, and talent lists. At the end of the course you'll have the resources you'll need to become a successful development executive, producer, writer or director.
· FINDING NEW IDEAS 4-Week Course Begins February 10, 2010
Where does your inspiration come from? In this rich and intensive class, we teach you how to find fresh, compelling new ideas in everyday life. Finding ideas to develop is your first step as a development professional, producer or writer. We share our no-fail methods to keep your imagination and creativity in high gear.
· CREATING A PRODUCTION COMPANY 6-week Course Begins March 24, 2010
Why a production company? It gives you the power to take control. In this course, we'll teach you exactly what's necessary to hang your shingle in Hollywood. From materials to networking, you'll get valuable tips that help you structure your company, find and option material, work with writers and talent, and create your network of industry pros. We'll walk you through step by step. This is not a "how to produce a movie" course but rather an innovative look at how to set up a company and the systems necessary to facilitate and manage a successful creative production company.
· STARTING A FILM FESTIVAL 6-Week Course begins Winter, 2010
This new workshop will provide the necessary information as to the best ways to start a film festival from the ground up. Participants will learn how to gain community support, to attract volunteers, how to pick the location and the permits needed. Valuable tips and resources will help festival organizers learn how to create ways to interest filmmakers, local community, as well as secure venues and find sponsors.

Aspiring screenwriters will learn the basic fundamental skills of formatting a screenplay. First impressions are everything. Never have a reader view you and your ill-formatted screenplay as being inexperienced or "green." Learning how to properly format your screenplay eliminates another excuse for a company passing on your material. Look professional. Learn the ins and out of the correct industry standard format.
· BASIC SCREENWRITING FUNDAMENTALS 6-Week Course (email us for dates)
This course is for writers who want to learn the fundamental skills involved in writing screenplays for Hollywood including basic formatting, building characters, discovering the three-act structure and more. This course is a good prerequisite to Feature Film Development From The Inside Out.

Participants learn the dos and don'ts of pitching as well as receive a critique of their pitch in this intensive workshop.
About the Instructors:
A graduate of California Institute of the Arts, Rona Edwards was Vice President of Creative Affairs for Emmy-winning actor, John Larroquette, Emmy-winning producer, Fern Field and Oscar-winning producer, Michael Phillips. With nine movies to her credit, including Out of Sync (VH1) and The Companion (USA/SciFi), she set-up up a feature Matchmakers at Warner Bros. as well as developed the movie Blind Trust that aired on Lifetime Television. She is in production on two documentaries and has recently optioned two bestselling book series by acclaimed mystery writer, Carolyn Hart and is developing another book series subtitled "Witches Gone Wild" with Emmy-winning writer Anne Beatts. Recently, she executive produced two movies ("Killer Hair" and "Hostile Makeover") for the Lifetime Movie Network that aired June, 2009.
Monika Skerbelis has fifteen years of studio executive experience working in the story department at Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox and running the story department at Universal Pictures. She is the Artistic and Programming Director for the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival and is a producer with Edwards Skerbelis Entertainment (ESE) developing projects. She was associate producer on two movies ("Killer Hair" and "Hostile Makeover") for the Lifetime Movie Network that aired June, 2009.
TOGETHER:
Rona Edwards and Monika Skerbelis are the authors of the critically acclaimed book, "I Liked It, Didn't Love It (Screenplay Development from the Inside Out)" now available in 2nd Edition. Last year, they kicked off ESE FILM WORKSHOPS ONLINE, an online film school helping writers and filmmakers improve their knowledge in 4 to 6 weeks without leaving their home - Just "Click, Type, Download & Read."
Currently, they teach "Introduction to Feature Film Development" at UCLA Extension both on campus and online as well as "Story Development Process" at Riverside Community College and "Basic Screenwriting" on campus at Chapman University's Dodge College of Film & Media Arts. Recently, they formed Edwards Skerbelis Entertainment (ESE) a company dedicated to nurturing filmmakers and screenwriting talent.
