· CREATING A PRODUCTION COMPANY 6-week Course Begins June 18, 2008

Learn what is necessary to have a shingle in Hollywood. Valuable tips and resources will help participants organize a production company, find material, writers, talent and network with industry professionals. Students will gain knowledge of the many components needed to have a successful production as well as learn systems to set up a cohesive business.

· MANEUVERING FILM FESTIVALS 4-Week Course begins April 9, 2008

This course will provide an introduction and overview of what type of strategy is needed to get the most out of the 3,000 film festivals around the world. In order to have a success at marketing yourself at the many film festivals available, you need to have the tools. This intensive course will provide valuable tips and resources to help you organize and put together the necessary materials needed to have a productive and beneficial festival experience as well as advance your film career.

· FINDING NEW IDEAS 4-Week Course Begins May 14, 2008

Whether you’re a writer, producer or development executive, you need to be on the constant look out for interesting ideas. You should have a file of ideas that you can go to at any given time to make your creation a reality. This intense workshop is about finding new ideas in everyday life, visual ideas that could become movies. Students will work with articles, advertising, internet, newspapers, magazines and other resources, in order to find new story ideas; some based upon source material leading to fresh and original ideas. Students will be asked to base their stories on specific genres and develop them into pitchable stories.

SCREENPLAY DEVELOPMENT FROM THE INSIDE OUT

(or What Happens To A Screenplay When It Leaves The Writer’s Hands)
5-Week Course Begins August 6, 2008

This workshop is for the writer, producer or director who has either written a screenplay, novel or short film or is ready to sell a project they have under option and is ready to submit their material to agents, production companies and studios. Based upon their critically acclaimed book, I Liked It, Didn’t Love It (Screenplay Development From The Inside Out), students will learn about each of the players at studios, production companies and agencies. In addition to what happens to screenplays and material submitted to each studio and/or production company, students will gain hands on experience in writing loglines, queries, coverage, development notes as well as learning the importance of structure, researching companies, and studying the methods necessary to become successful writers, producers and directors. This class will also give students the tools necessary to start a producing or development career.

· BASIC FORMATTING FOR SCREENWRITERS 2-Week Course (check website for dates or email us for dates)

Aspiring screenwriters will learn the basic fundamental skills of formatting a screenplay. First impressions are everything. Never have a reader view you and your ill-formatted screenplay as being inexperienced or “green.” Learning how to properly format your screenplay eliminates another excuse for a company passing on your material. Look professional. Learn the ins and out of the correct industry standard format.

· BASIC SCREENWRITING FUNDAMENTALS 6-Week Course (email us for dates)

This course is for writers who want to learn the fundamental skills involved in writing screenplays for Hollywood including basic formatting, building characters, discovering the three-act structure and more. This course is a good prerequisite to Feature Film Development From The Inside Out.

· THE ONE MINUTE, FIVE MINUTE, FIFTEEN MINUTE PITCH(in-person course only for students who live in Los Angeles)(email us for dates)

Participants learn the dos and don’ts of pitching as well as receive a critique of their pitch in this intensive workshop.

Rona Edwards and Monika Skerbelis are the authors of the book, “I Liked It, Didn’t Love It: Screenplay Development from the Inside Out” and the founders of ESE Film Workshops Online, an online film school helping writers and filmmakers improve their knowledge in 4 to 6 weeks without leaving their home – Just “Click, Type, Download & Read.” Edwards was Vice President Creative Affairs for Emmy-winning actor, John Larroquette, Emmy-winning producer, Fern Field and Oscar-winning producer, Michael Phillips. With seven produced movies to her credit, including Out of Sync (VH1) and The Companion (USA/SciFi), she set-up up a feature Matchmakers at Warner Bros. and an MOW, Blind Trust, which aired in 2007 on Lifetime Television. Skerbelis has fifteen years of studio executive experience working in the story department at Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox and running the story department at Universal Pictures where she was Vice President of Creative. She’s the Artistic and Programming Director for the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival & Screenplay Competition. Together they teach Film Development at UCLA Extension, Riverside Community College and Screenwriting at Chapman University’s Dodge College Film & Media Arts. ESE also provides consultations and is actively producing projects for film & Television.
