I used to call myself a Writer / Reluctant Producer, because I only produced in order to get the films that I wrote, produced. But now I call myself a Writer's Producer because 1) I am a writer first, 2) because I love to work with other writers and help them to see their projects realized, and 3) I'm good at it. I'm someone who 'gets things done'. I have Associate Produced two feature films, as well as written/produced several documentaries, tv pilots, and a six part series for broadcasters such as CBC, Discovery Channel, FOX, BBC, etc, and have more than 80 various credits on various productions.
Several years ago, I created and founded The Great American PitchFest and The Great Canadian PitchFest as a way to help other writers meet the people they need to know in order for their projects to move forward. As a direct result of the Great American and Great Canadian Pitchfests, over 40 writers and producers have gotten options, jobs within the industry, and relationships that have helped their writing move from a hobby to a career.
Because of the pitchfest and my relationships in Canada and Los Angeles, I do a lot of 'matchmaking' where I introduce new writers and their scripts with producing partners who are looking for material. I look for writers who 1) know their craft, 2) have great, 'can do' attitudes, 3) are fun to work with. I look for scripts that are 1) high concept with something to say, and 2) thrillers, horrors, or comedies.
I am President and CEO of Twilight Pictures Inc in Canada, and Protagonist Pictures Inc in Los Angeles.
Working towards a first look studio deal, and to producing more films and television projects in Canada, Los Angeles, and abroad.
