Victim's Song

Logline

Two social outcasts become obsessed with a heinous local crime and take the man they believe to be guilty hostage, in hopes of getting a confession.

Synopsis

Bucky Buckwalter is a below average schlub with an alcohol problem. His only friend is Travis Mathis, a shy little man who still lives at home with his mother. As the two sit around drinking and watching TV, they become fascinated by a breaking news story. Eric Chandler, a senator’s son and all around perfect guy, has been accused of murdering his lovely wife and young daughter. The days pass and the two are inundated with even more coverage of the crime. They sit riveted as the police botch the investigation and the detective in charge, Gordan Bavich physically attacks Eric. As a result, Eric goes free and Bavich is fired. Bucky can’t let it go, how could such an obvious (in his mind) open and shut case be so irreparably damaged? How can someone who is so clearly guilty just walk free? There is only one thing to do and Bucky, with a reluctant Travis in tow, breaks into the Chandler home and takes Eric hostage. They only want a confession but Eric maintains his innocence. The night grows longer and the situation escalates, and Bucky turns to violence. In spite of the torture, Eric still does not confess. Bucky further loses his grip on reality. Fueled by booze and vengeance, Bucky is beginning to get sloppy and Travis is beginning to believe Eric. Bavich also cannot let go of the case. Haunted by images of the mutilated little girl, he finds himself drawn to the scene of the crime. As he is no longer a cop, he is not bound by police procedure and he decides to do some investigating on his own. On this terrible night, the four men will find themselves thrown together, each looking for redemption and answers. Each will pay a price, but not everyone will walk away.
