Filmmakers who want to learn more about film development; the players involved at Studios and Production Companies, Agencies, Management Companies; creating a production company; finding and developing new ideas; how to pitch those ideas; basic screenplay format, basic screenwriting fundamentals; the strategy needed to make the film festival circuit work for you, will benefit from ESE Film Workshops Online. Individuals will learn how to apply these skills in order to open doors and network with professionals in the film industry.

SCREENPLAY DEVELOPMENT FROM THE INSIDE OUT
(or What Happens To A Screenplay When It Leaves The Writer's Hands)
Begins January 9 - Feburary 6, 2008

This intense workshop is an overview of the world of feature film development based upon their highly regarded class, “Introduction to Feature Film Development” which has been taught at UCLA. Participants will learn about each of the players at studios, production companies and agencies. In addition to what happens to screenplays and material submitted to each studio and/or production company. They will learn about the importance of loglines, coverage, development notes, talent lists and learn the resources needed to become successful development executives, producers, writers and directors. (5 Week Online Workshop or can be incorporated to include the workshop “Finding New Ideas” below and make it a 9 week workshop online)

Topics covered:
• The steps a screenplay or novel goes through when it is submitted to a studio or production company;
• What are the considerations readers and executives look for in screenplays
• Why the logline is important to sparking interest;
• Writing coverage and development notes;
• How do agents and managers work;
• Importance of networking.

About ESE Film Workshops Online & Edwards Skerbelis Entertainment (ESE):

Together, RONA EDWARDS and MONIKA SKERBELIS have more than twenty years experience in the motion picture and television industry. The have taught Introduction to Feature Film Development at UCLA extension for the past eight years, Story Development Process at Riverside Community College's Distance Learning and Basic Screenwriting Fundamentals at the Dodge College of Film and TV at Chapman University. They recently formed Edwards Skerbelis Entertainment (ESE), a company dedicated to nurturing filmmakers and screenwriting talent. Via consultations, ESE assists talent in developing their screenplays and pitches with development notes and general career advice. In addition, ESE is actively seeking projects to produce. They have written the critically acclaimed book, “I LIKED IT, DIDN’T LOVE IT (Screenplay Development From The Inside Out)” published by Lone Eagle Publishing and currently available at The Writers Store. They have served on the jury of numerous screenwriting competitions and are guest lecturers and panelists at film schools, film festivals, film commissions and film organizations worldwide.

About Rona Edwards:

RONA EDWARDS runs RONA EDWARDS PRODUCTIONS (REP), a production company that produces and develops projects for feature film and television. She Co-Produced and/or Executive Produced OUT OF SYNC (VH1), ONE SPECIAL VICTORY (NBC), THE COMPANION (USA/SCI-FI CHANNEL) which marked the long-form debut of director Gary Fleder, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID (ABC) and for German television DER MURDER MEINER MUTTER (SAT. 1). She served as Executive Producer on the documentary, HOPE IN HEAVEN and is currently co-producing and co-directing JOHNNY GOT HIS GUN: THE PASSION OF DALTON TRUMBO, a documentary with Barbara Multer-Wellin. She set up a TV movie, BLIND TRUST, which will air on Lifetime TV. Ms. Edwards was Vice President of Creative Affairs for John Larroquette’s Port Street Films, Michael Phillips Productions and Brookfield Productions. Edwards has had projects made and/or in development with many of the major networks and studios including a script deal at ABC, movies at CBS, ABC, NBC, Hearst Entertainment, VH1, HBO, Phoenix Television, Edward R. Pressman, Motor City Films, Warner Bros., and Wilshire Court, to name a few. She developed a television series entitled ZOMBIE SQUAD for USA Network with producer Judy Cairo. She has been on panels, guest lectured and presented workshops all over the world. A contributing writer to THE BEACHWOOD VOICE, Edwards is also the newspaper’s restaurant reviewer and freelances for PRODUCED BY, the official magazine of the Producers Guild of America. She is a member of the Producers Guild of America, Film Independent (FIND), the Nine O’Clock Players and The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

About Monika Skerbelis:

MONIKA SKERBELIS is a former Vice President of Creative and Executive Story Editor for Universal Pictures’ story department where she spent ten years overseeing the story department and developing a number of screenplays including BLACK DOG starring Patrick Swayze. Prior to that, She was Story Editor for 20th Century Fox and began her career as an assistant in the Story Department at Paramount Pictures.
Ms. Skerbelis has made a name for herself fostering new filmmakers and encouraging up-and-coming screenwriters. Her extensive knowledge of the studio system has given students a greater understanding of the development process.
She is on her eighth year as the artistic & programming director for the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival where she programs all the films, helps organize the film festival and interacts with filmmakers and talent. With Rona Edwards, she has formed Edwards Skerbelis Entertainment (ESE) (www.ESEntertainment.net), dedicated to nurturing filmmakers and screenwriting talent. ESE is also developing projects to produce. In addition, via consultations, ESE assists talent in developing their screenplays and pitches with development notes and general career advice. Recently, she co-produced the feature-length mockumentary, QUEST FOR THE YETI, directed by Victoria Arch. She has written screenplays and is developing a documentary titled, WOMEN AHEAD OF THEIR TIME.
