SPEAKER SERIES: Q & A With Comedy Writer Panel
Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 1p.m. at Raleigh Studios
The Scriptwriters Network is proud to present comedy screenwriters for a panel discussion:
• Rick Overton has been a stand-up comic and actor for 37 years. He has an Emmy award for his writing on the 1996 season of Dennis Miller Live on HBO. He has appeared in over 100 films as a character actor and will begin filming the new Stepehn Soderberg feature THE INFORMANT opposite Matt Damon in May 2008. The lion's share of his work on screen involves improvisation to one degree or another. It is the core of everything new.
• Ritch Shydner is a writer, producer, actor and stand-up comic with more than twenty five years experience in “the business”. He has made numerous appearances on the David Letterman Show, the Jay Leno Show, and on Johnny Carson’s original Tonight Show. Ritch has had roles on “Married with Children”, “Designing Women”, and “Roseanne” as well as in films such as Steve Martin’s “Roxanne” and Eddie Murphy’s “Beverly Hills Cop II”. Ritch has also worked as a staff writer on such sitcoms as "Roseanne," "The Jeff Foxworthy Show," and “punched up” (added the humor to) many television shows and motion pictures. Most recently, Ritch was the Co-Executive Producer and head writer for the HBO show, “The Mind of the Married Man.” He has also written material for Jeff Foxworthy’s Grammy nominated comedy albums, “Totally Committed”, “Big Fun” and “Blue Collar TV”. His first book, “I Killed: True Stories of the Road from American’s Top Comics” was published in 2006.
• Ron Zimmerman (The Shaggy Dog, My Wife and Kids, The Michael Richards Show, V.I.P.)
• Maria Bamford stars in her own web sitcom on SuperDeluxe.com, stars in the new Comedy Central series, "The Comedians of Comedy Tour" (as well as in the independent film of the same title out on NETFLIX). Maria has also been featured in Variety's TOP TEN COMICS TO WATCH, has been the talk of Montreal, Edinburgh, Aspen, Kilkenny and Melbourne Comedy Festivals and was voted by Comedy Central viewers as one of their Top Ten Favorite Comics.
