A free, three-day extravaganza for playwrights, actors, directors and more!
The Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights’ big fall event is being presented in conjunction with The Dramatists Guild of America’s visit to Los Angeles, for a full weekend of the ultimate in theatre.
ALAP is the premiere playwriting organization on the West Coast. Founded in 1992, ALAP is a support and service organization, with a large and diverse membership of area playwrights, ranging from beginning and student writers to established professionals.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5 - 8:00 PM
Dramatists Guild Town Hall - Led by Executive Director of Creative Affairs Gary Garrison, at Theatre West, 3333 Cahuenga Boulevard West, LA 90068; park in lot across the street
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6 - All-day extravaganza at Loyola Marymount University, 1 LMU Drive, Los Angeles, a few blocks north of LAX. Check www.laplaywrights.org for directions to the specific building and instructions for free parking.
10:00 – 11:45 Director/ Dramatist Exchange - Directors give brief presentations about what they’re looking for in new scripts; networking follows.
12:00 – 12:50 Playwrights’ Rights - A discussion of the legal issues for playwrights.
12:00 – 12:50 Other Peoples’ Stories: The Art of Adaptation
1:00 – 1:45 Monologue Slam: Round One
Playwright-actor teams (or solo artists) compete with short, original monologues for awesome prizes like Final Draft software and Writers Store gift certificates.
1:15 – 2:45 New Play Development: Where Are We?
Lit Managers and Reps of large, medium and small sized theaters discuss the development process.
2:00 – 2:45 Monologue Slam: Round Two
3:00 – 4:00 A Conversation with Pulitzer Prize Winner Beth Henley (Crimes of the Heart)
4:15 – 6:00 The 9th Annual ALAP Playreading Festival and Monologue Slam Finals

1:00 – 2:30 Short But Sweet: Writing the 10-Minute Play - A Master Class conducted by Gary Garrison
2:30 – 4:00 Be Specific! The Ins and Outs of Creating Site-Specific Works
