What's with these GROUPS HERE? This is so disappointing! I was hoping to network with people here. This really sucks! Doesn't anyone ever "Sign In" or read the Posts other than the few people at "Writers & Special Effects"? This is so boring.
I can't believe how many "DEAD GROUPS" there are here with NO activity for months!

Sorry! I was taking a nap.

(I really like the second post.)
The truth about writing is that, for the most part, it's a solitary journey. Yes, there are times with peer editing, coverage, sit downs with the director and producer, writing teams or television it involves more people, but in relativity it's pretty confined.
Yes, many people on top of the game try to promote their classes and seminars on here, but as not everyone can do this, it will cost you. Students pay to develop these skills and know how. People understudy half their lives in particular crafts in the film industry. Even in the writing program at my university, it's no laughing matter: heated arguments, fist fights, personal attacks off the subject, racism, and politics. This is a tough competitive industry.
Like in sports, an athlete has personal trainers, but it's ultimately up to that athlete to make the shot, peddle across the finish line, or knock the other guy out. When there isn't much dialogue on here, it can be a bit disappointing at times, but honestly it's you and your computer (or notepad). You make it happen; not a "magical" website. (Still looking to bid on a magical lamp on ebay.)
The vast majority of questions on these threads are redundant and majority of the answers are easily found out with research. So it gets tiring to reply to every one of these post... especially in a cutthroat environment, time is of the essence because no matter how successful anyone is, no matter how rich, no matter how famous someone is he/she still only has 24 hours in a day. Many people work full-time and whatever time is leftover they spend on writing. Many people try to be hyphenates, so their time is spread out from writing, to acting classes, to polishing their video editing skills, and directing short projects, to whatever they wish to be at in the industry.

Like most sites that require participation, most members are more excited by the prospect of what someone in the group can do to help them. I have found that few members want to do much more than watch from the sidelines, myself included.
