The Business of Being a Screenwriter


UCLA Professional Programs

UCLA is proud to present "The Business of Being a Screenwriter" -- a 10-week course taught by CAA agent Richard Green.

Offered by the UCLA Professional Programs at the School of Theater, Film and Television, this course provides a comprehensive overview of the professional life of a screenwriter. By the end of the course, you will have a greater understanding of what it takes to be a WORKING writer in Hollywood. A guest speaker will address the class each week, and scripts will be assigned in preparation for each class topic.

Topics include:

- Agents and Managers: What Do They Do - And Who Needs Them?
- The Relationship Between Writers and Producers
- Studios and Studio Execs: Friends or Foes?
- Directors and the Collaboration Process
- The Independent Scene
- Underlying Material
- How a Writer Gets Paid

This course starts in January 2009.
