WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MAKE IT HAPPEN?

Michele Wallerstein's profile

I was just sitting here thinking about what you writers are doing to make your writing career happen. Of course you are writing. Then what? What are you doing with those finished screenplays? Are you sending them to screenplay consultants,
film festivals, writers conferences, professional writers that you've met at prior
events????

If you live outside of the Los Angeles area, what are you doing to get an agent in Los Angeles? Do you know how to do that?

Today I received an email from a writer along with a 21 page outline. Both the
email and the outline were so grammatically incorrect that I could not make sense out of them. Are you sure that you are writing good prose? Are you using the correct
script format? Does your script have a plot?

Let me know what's going on with you. Perhaps I can help.

It's good to find this page! I'd love any help I can get. I am, of course, writing, and reading as many good scripts as I can get my hands on. I currently have one finished script in the scriptsavvy contest, which provides feedback, and I have several other contests on my "Contest Calendar". The problem that I face is living in Georgia and having no contacts or credentials. My goal is to win, or at least finalize, in a few contests before seeking representation or sending out queries.

Hi Sandy: Having one finished original screenplay is a good start. You need to have at least three to really get going and to get noticed. You will find that your writing will improve greatly as you go along. I also strongly suggest that you use a good sceeenplay consultant. It doesn't have to be me. There are several very good people in the business who are quite professional.
Are you taking any screenwriting classes, reading screenwriting books, going to writers conferences???? These are very, very important in your future career. Write to me if you have any questions and my web site is:

Thanks, Michele, for the feedback. I actually do have three finished scripts, but two are still in the polishing stage. I went for the contests for a couple of reasons, feedback, the possiblity of placing, and it's cheaper than a consultant. I'm currently working two (paying) jobs just to make ends almost meet so I can't afford much, including traveling to conferences. But, yes, I am reading books on script writing and I believe the scripts I've written are really solid.

Hi Sandy: One more thing you can do for free! Fill out your Profile here at
Storylink. It will let many people know a little bit about who you are, what you like, what your writing consists of, etc. Continuing to make all kinds of contacts is paramount to your career. Good Thoughts!
