Sponsored by the Writers Guild of America, West, The Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution, One Nation for All Foundation, Gallup, and Unity Productions Foundation, the WGAW will co-host a topical panel discussion, “Rewriting the Divide: Hollywood and the Muslim World,” on Tuesday, June 17, exploring current film and television portrayals of Muslims and the cultural impact of the entertainment industry on public perception at large.
This special forum will also mark the launch of a new industry resource center, The Hollywood Engagement Initiative, co-founded by the Arts and Culture Initiative, Saban Center for Middle East Policy, Brookings Institution; Unity Productions Foundation, One Nation for All Foundation, and Gallup, to help provide writers and other entertainment professionals with greater access to reliable, accurate information and storylines about Muslims and Islam.
Panelists for this event include: Howard Gordon, executive producer, 24; Jim Berk, CEO, Participant Media; author Dalia Mogahed (Who Speaks for Islam?), senior analyst and executive director, Gallup Center for Muslim Studies; author Michael Wolfe (Taking Back Islam), co-founder and executive producer, Unity Productions Foundation; Ambassador Cynthia P. Schneider, director, Arts and Culture Dialogue Initiative, Saban Center for Middle East Policy, Brookings Institution and Distinguished Professor in the Practice of Diplomacy, Georgetown University.
