Golden Globes Cancelled, but Voting Lives On

Kyle

As many of you know, the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards NBC telecast and champagne dinner has been cancelled. Complications from the Writers Guild strike lead to the decision this week, pushing the strike further to the forefront of pop culture.

I have been a little surprised by how many people are talking about the Golden Globes being cancelled, and more importantly, how upset people are about it. I think this is a great victory for the writers, as the Golden Globe cancellation shows how vital the writers are to Hollywood, and how American (and international) pop culture suffers from their absence.

Every year my family gets together to watch the Globes. We fill out our secret ballots and root for our nominees to win, and needless to say, there is some trash talking when each award is announced. I am disappointed that I won't be able to have this experience this year, and I am not alone. In the spirit of this tradition, I filled out my own ballot today, and I want to share it with all of you.

If you agree or disagree with my choices, I would love to hear from you. Let the debate begin!

Best picture - Drama No Country for Old Men. It has the benefit of being released earlier. There Will Be Blood's buzz hasn't caught up to it yet.
Best Actress Drama - Julie Christie. Elizabeth is too bad of a movie.
Best Actor Drama - Daniel Day Lewis
Best Comedy - Juno. You didn't find that funny?
Best Actress - Ellen Page. Can anything stop the momentum of Juno.
Best Actor Comedy - Johnny Depp. I love Gosling but Goliath will beat David.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM RATATOUILLE
Best Foreign Language Film - Diving Bell and the Butterfly. It's getting better reviews and is truly foreign.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE CATE BLANCHETT – I’M NOT THERE
Best Supporting Actor - Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I think they'll go for the bigger stars in the supporting categories.
BEST DIRECTOR – MOTION PICTURE ETHAN COEN & JOEL COEN – NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN
BEST SCREENPLAY - Diablo Cody. People want to see what a stripper-turned-screenwriter looks like.
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE – MOTION PICTURE MICHAEL BROOK with KAKI KING and EDDIE VEDDER – INTO THE WILD
BEST ORIGINAL SONG – MOTION PICTURE Walk Hard - Dewey Cox. If "It's hard out here for a Pimp can win.
BEST TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA BIG LOVE (HBO)
16. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA Sally FIELD. They like her. They really like her!
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA Michael C. Hall. That show has to walk away with something and House isn't powerful enough to be winning in it's 4th season.
BEST TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL - Californication. Globes likes first seasons of edgy shows before forgetting about them.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES –COMEDY OR MUSICAL TINA FEY – 30 ROCK
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL Steve Carell. They liked voting for Gervais when no one knew who he was.
BEST MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION The State Within. I like the name.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION SISSY SPACEK – PICTURES OF HOLLIS WOODS
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION Jim Broadbent. They like known people for these ones.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION Kathreen Hiegl. It's a big year for her.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION Jeremy Piven. The much juicier role.

We agree on 8/25.

Hey Kyle,

I starting reading -- In Country...

The style is very unique.

Maybe only directors/producers are allowed to break the rules.

It's well structured, but it's not a page turner...

What happened to 3:10 Yuma, best script?

Regards
Benjamin
